Worldwide partnership

Randers Regnskov is a member of WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquaria), working to promote collaboration between zoos and aquaria all over the world. The objective is to ensure the highest standards of quality for animal welfare and public information, and to facilitate inter-zoo breeding programmes for wildlife preservation. Wildlife conservation is a key mission for WAZA.

European partnership

Randers Regnskov is a member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria), working to promote collaboration between zoos and aquaria in Europe. Wildlife conservation is a key mission for EAZA, an organisation dedicated to ensuring the highest quality standards for animal welfare and public information, and to promote breeding collaboration between zoos to ensure the genetically healthiest animal population possible. EAZA has over 320 members in 35 countries, zoos visited by 140 million people annually.

Breeding programmes for endangered species

Randers Regnskov takes part in EAZA's breeding programmes:

  • EEP (European Endangered Species Programme), a coordinated breeding scheme under which breeding of individual species is centrally controlled by a coordinator to manage the genetic family relationship between the different individual animals, which zoos they are in and which individuals mate.
  • ESB (European Studbook), less intensive monitoring of a given species to see whether a breeding programme should be taken to the next level of collaborative breeding.

Collaboration between Danish zoos

DAZA is an association consisting of 16 of the biggest and best zoos and aquaria in Denmark, working together to boost interest, understanding and respect for wildlife, and to preserve the rich wildlife of the world. DAZA members have to meet high standards within animal care, breeding programmes, animal exchange, public information and education, scientific work and wildlife conservation.
