The African Dome
The African dome covers an area of 500 square meters and reaches a height of 12 meters. As in the other domes, there is a year round temperature between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius and a humidity close to 100 percent.
Inside the dome, there is a footpath, where you have to cross a stream on stepping stones. This part of the path is not suited for wheelchair users and the walking impaired. However, it is possible to see the entire dome from the remainder of the footpaths, which are easily accessible for everyone.
Many different kinds of African animals inhabit this dome, for example Colobus monkeys and lemurs, as well as many free flying birds.
the Colobus monkey
In the African dome, the Colobus couple and their young live in a big facility. The Colobus is a long-haired monkey that lives on a diet consisting solely of leaves. This low nutrition diet is processed in the Colobus monkey's complex stomach with three chambers. The stomach contains special microorganisms that break down the leaves. One might say the Colobus is the monkey equivalent to the cow.

Colorful birds & Red-bellied lemurs
From the vantage point in the African dome, you can observe ibises and many other different birds that move around in the treetops. Perhaps you will also spot the Red-bellied lemurs; they roam the exhibition freely.
