The king cobra in Randers Regnskov has finally gotten himself a lady friend – a 3 meter long and very beautiful female. However, the two king cobras will not be introduced to each other for quite some time. Director Henrik Herold explains why; “In nature, the king cobra primarily eats other snakes. For that reason we are a bit nervous that the two might eat each other, if we introduce them too soon. In the future we do intend to unite the two snakes, and hopefully they will breed successfully, but we have to be very careful”.
The king cobra is the world’s largest poisonous snake and has always been a key point of interest to Henrik. To expand his knowledge of this amazing snake, Henrik and a team from Danish television recently went to Thailand. The tour was very rewarding, and Henrik says that he has become a lot wiser on cobras, in general: “I’ve seen how peaceful these amazing snakes can in fact be. Moreover, the trip gave me some valuable pointers to what it takes to get them to breed in captivity”, says Henrik.
