The two saki monkeys in Randers Regnskov became parents for the first time to a healthy little baby yesterday – the same day as the Indian cobras hatched.
Animal keeper Maria Arentsen says; “We’ve been waiting for this birth in a couple of months now, so to finally see the baby is amazing. The adults were introduced to each other just before Christmas and started to mate almost immediately. We therefore expected to receive a baby a lot sooner. However, not all mating attemps bears fruit”. Fortunately one of them did!
The little saki baby is now clinging safely to its mother’s fur, and here it will probably stay the first 2-4 weeks after which the father will contribute to the care of it as well.
