Bawling, beautiful birds

A big group of noisy new residents has been set free in Randers Regnskov’s Asian dome. More specific, the 4 lorikeets that have been living there for quite some time have gotten 11 new friends of the same species, so that the total number of lorikeets is now 15. These are roaming freely in the Asian dome together with several other bird species and about 50 flying foxes.

Many places in both Asia and Australia, from where the lorikeet originates, the lorikeets live in very large groups. Due to their trustful nature, they easily get accustomed to the presence of humans and can – where the food sources are rich – gather in enormous groups. And with their loud bawling, it’s easy to tell when the group is nearby.

The lorikeets in Randers Regnskov can often be seen near the bowls of fruit, where they pick out the sweetest, most juicy fruit right in front of the nose of the flying foxes. Many of our guests will also experience the lorikeets first hand as they fly right above your head with lots of speed. However, there is no reason to be nervous since the lorikeets are very quick to manoeuvre around you!
