The blue and yellow macaw that normally lives in the South American dome has been sent on a little holiday in Randers Regnskov’s African dome. Holiday may not be the proper word, though, since, in reality, he’s been sent there, because he’s been creating too many problems in South America.
This male macaw has now two broken “marriages” on his conscience. First, he broke off a well-established couple of scarlet macaws. Next, he also charmed his way into the heart of a female green-winged macaw - after which he beat up the male of the couple.
Enough is enough! This animal version of Don Juan must now live in celibacy in Africa, until he learns to control his romantic skills, or at least until he gets a partner of his own kind with whom he can settle down and create a family of his own.
The green-winged male that he beat up and sent to the hospital has now recovered and been re-introduced to his female in South America. After a few small quarrels the two have now rediscovered their affection for each other. They have even started to build a nest in the big log next to the Cuban crocodiles. “And this is the way we intended it to be – therefore the blue and yellow “home breaker” had to be sent away to Africa”, says animal keeper Sanne Andersen.
