Well hidden in its mother’s thick coat of fur, two small eyes appeared when animal keeper Sanne Andersen was about to feed the saki monkeys yesterday at noon. Our pair of sakis has become parents! We have seen the two monkeys mate several times so the arrival of the baby was expected in the nearest future.
The first time our sakis became parents was in July last year. Unfortunately this baby didn’t survive due to the fact that the mother simply didn’t have the experience needed to take care of a baby. Within monkeys it’s quite normal that the first born dies because the mother often doesn’t produce milk that is nutritious enough for the baby to survive. However, so far this baby is looking really good and it seems to thrive, so we are quite hopeful.
The baby is clinging tightly to its mother.
