The gibbons have become parents to their 4th baby!
It’s been no more than a few minutes since animal keeper Jens Peter Friis could tell us all the joyful news that our pair of gibbons have become parents to another healthy baby. Jens Peter was starting to notice that the female’s belly and breasts had started to grow significantly lately, and she had also been a bit more irritable towards her other offspring than usual. However, the arrival of the new baby still came as a pleasant surprise.
It’s not just in Randers Regnskov that this birth is a happy event. Our pair of gibbons is only the fourth known breeding pair of this species in a European Zoo, so the birth is somewhat of a sensation. The newborn is the fourth gibbon baby that’s been born here in Randers Regnskov – about 2.5 years after the birth of their last baby. Both mother and baby are doing fine, although mum is a bit tired after the birth.
